Normal is a silent observation of the seemingly unshakeable gender norms rooted in contemporary society, from birth through adulthood. Filmed in a warm, almost flat colour palette, the camera acts as an unblinking observer, allowing the viewer to gaze down the lens at the everyday rituals being performed with an almost detached sense of unease. The beautiful composition and patient editing of Normal is in contrast to the eerily ordinary world revealed, of the feminine and masculine roles hidden in familiar scenes and relationships. What’s left is one unsettling question - why is this normal?
