Donne di Mafia - 6-8 March 2021

To celebrate International Women's Day, CinemaItaliaUK will be hosting the mini Film Festival Donne di Mafia, to shed a light upon women in Italian mafias by exploring their portrayal in contemporary Italian cinema.

Women in organised crime are often thought of as 'agency-less' secondary figures but the truth is much more nuanced.

Donne di Mafia is part of the broader research project 'Women, crime and culture: transnational organised crime as an equal opportunity industry' funded by the Leverhulme Trust.

The mini Film Festival will include six among feature films and documentaries, telling the story of the contradictory and harsh lives of women who are often active, knowledgeable, complicit, violent, determined and scared in the different roles they play and the space they inhabit.

As part of this mini Film Festival we have chosen to show 6 very different films and documentaries that shine the light on the contradictory and harsh lives of women who are often active, knowledgeable, complicit, violent, determined and scared in the different roles they play and the space they occupy.
