THE SECOND EDITION OF OUR MINI FESTIVAL DONNE DI MAFIA

Thank your for making the second edition of our mini festival Donne di Mafia a success!

After its 2021 first edition as a virtual event on our CinemaItaliaUK Player in March 2021, this year we couldn’t hope for a better turnout. Two sold out screenings and Q&As buzzing with audience questions at The Garden Cinema.

We opened our programme with the documentary Shooting the Mafia - a wonderful portrait of Mafia photographer Letizia Battaglia - followed by a Q&A with director Kim Longinotto herself in conversation with journalist, documentary producer and lecturer Carol Nahra.

The afternoon continued with a preview of Jonas Carpignano’s A Chiara, the third chapter of his trilogy set in Gioia Tauro, Calabria about a young girl who decides to investigate the ties her family has with the local Mafia and defy them. Hearing about the film and about women’s involvement in the Mafia from journalist and writer Claire Longrigg was a fantastic conclusion to our special afternoon.

A special thank you to Leverhulme Trust, Jacobacci Law (Italia) and the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies, University of Bath who funded and supported the event.

Stay tuned for our next screenings and read more about our Festival on TimeOut and LondraNotizie24.
